Ride the Grand Canyon Railway to the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon Railway is a great way to get to the Grand Canyon. It departs from Williams, Arizona, which is a great little town with plenty of restaurants and shops. The train has several classes of service, including sleeper cars and dining cars. There are also several activities available while you wait for the train to leave or arrive at the next stop, such as hiking trails or bike rentals. We recommend staying in Williams overnight so that you can explore more than just your train ride!

The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular destinations in the world. It’s also a long way from Williams, Arizona—the town nearest to where many people like to stay when they visit this natural wonder. The good news is that there is an easy way for travelers to get from Williams to their hotel or home again: take a train!

The Grand Canyon Railway departs from its terminal in Williams daily at 8:30 and 3:30 p.m., stopping at various hotels along the way (including El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, and Hopi House) before reaching its final stop at Grand Canyon Village. From here, it’s just an easy walk or shuttle ride down into Bright Angel Trailhead, which leads visitors into one of America’s most famous attractions.

There are several classes of service offered on the train.

There are several classes of service offered on the train.

  • First Class: The most luxurious service, this class has a dining car, bar car, and observation car. You can also take in views from an open-air platform or your own private room with views through large picture windows.
  • Deluxe Touring Car: This version has all of the same amenities as First Class but with fewer options for meals and drinks.
  • Observation Car: This is where you’ll find an expansive glassed-in platform that offers sweeping views (and even some wildlife) as well as comfortable seating inside if you would prefer to stay out of the elements—if only temporarily!
  • Coach Class: This is the most basic way to go—it’s still well worth it at this price point! You get everything you need on board without any extra frills (but also without extra fees).

The Grand Canyon Railway also offers two specialty cars that have been painstakingly restored after being part of America’s early railroads: Luxury Parlor Car and Bar/Lounge Car.

There are probably more activities and options than you can imagine on this train ride.
